Putting the correct number in the correct place is always a challenge when switching between index and logarithmic notation. Use your calculator to help answer these 12 questions by filling in the missing blank on each row of the table.
Requires a calculator with a log to any base button, any root finder button and an exponent/index button. This would typically include any Casio Calculator with a textbook display such as fx-83/85GT or fx-991EX.
Solutions included.

Students are told not to press the SD button and not to give a approximate decimal answer except when given by the calculator itself. In this task there is an addition grid and a multiplication grid containing a combination of surds, fractions, indices and a trigonometric function. Students should input them into the calculator as presented and then write the first answer the calculator gives in the cross-section of the grid.
Perfect as a high end GCSE task, a GCSE-A-Level Mathematics bridging task or as an A-Level consolidation task for students who are maybe still uncomfortable about giving or getting exact answers.

Previous resources that have been shared, including a remastered version of the equivalent representations activity that was developed a few years ago, have been uploaded. There is also the Casio Calculator Tarsia which lets students match Calculator button presses with the results produced.
There are also two new resources Solve, Then Factorise, specifically desiganed with instructions for the Casio Classwiz fx-991EX, but could be used with any calculator with a polynomial solver.
The first task, which is free, gets students to input a quadratic equation into the solver and then retrive and record the solutions. From those solutions the then get the factors and complete the factorised form of the equation. This is the opposite way around to the convention of factorising, then solving and provides a different take on working with quadratics.
Finally there is a space to expand the factors and check it expands to the correct quadratic equation.
There is also a second and third task Solve, Then Factorise 2 and 3, which are available to buy together. These extend student’s confidence and skill with this technique, with further examples and when combined with Solve, then Factorise 1 can provide a lessons worth of activity for the students with their Classwiz, for a small charge.
Both tasks are complete with instructions and solutions.
